The beaches in Dalmatia are beautiful pebble beaches with rounded (and almost soft) stones. There are also excellent rocky beaches on the islands. Although you may not find sandy beaches like those in places such as Spain, you'll often encounter sandy bottoms in the sea. Each has charming old town centers, a vibrant café and restaurant scene, and surprisingly good shopping. Have you tried boiled Swiss chard (called blitva in Croatian) with potatoes, garlic, and a generous drizzle of olive oil? Take the opportunity in southern Croatia. It doesn't get much better than this! Add some freshly grilled fish, and you'll have a meal your taste buds will remember. The best wines come from the Peljesac peninsula, located halfway between Split and Dubrovnik. Names like Posip, Dingac, or Postup, whether bottled or from a carafe, make little difference. They, like most local wines, pair excellently with the Dalmatian cuisine.
